Installing
Bird-Flite Bird Spikes |
|
A
great benefit of Bird-Flite bird spikes is the extra coverage
gained because of the bird spike configuration.
With Bird-Flite bird spikes you can install multiple rows of
this bird deterrent spaced with the tips up to 2 inches apart
or in a single row or back wall installation you can leave up
to 2 inches of unprotected space between the rod tips and a wall
(see diagram). On the outer edge the bird spikes (rods) should
overhang the edge by at least ½ inch to provide full protection
against pigeon problems and other problem birds.
For instance, the Bird-Flite Wide bird control spikes can be
used to protect a one-sided ledge up to seven inches wide.
These bird spikes can be either glued or screwed to a surface
depending on the application. Using Bird Bond glue is generally
faster and more secure as the entire bird control product strip
is secured to the ledge. With either method, the application time
for installing these bird repellents is generally around one two
to feet per minute as soon as you get the hang of the procedure.
A male and female end fit snugly together for longer runs of this
bird deterrent.
If you need a shorter portion of the Bird-Flite to finish a particular
area, the bird spike base is scored to snap off with just a few
bends back and forth, making it easy to get just the right size
section of bird spike for your job.
Using Bird Bond Glue
When using Bird Bond, each one-foot section of bird spikes should
receive four to five equally spaced marble-sized dabs of glue.
You don’t want to run a continuous bead down the base of
the pigeon spike as you then create a water barrier.
• Apply four to five dabs of glue per bird spike strip
• Place bird deterrent in the correct position and press
to the ledge
• After a few seconds, lift that pigeon spike strip off for
around 10-15 seconds
• Then press the bird spike section again onto the ledge
firmly until some Bird Bond comes out the sides and squirts up
through the screw holes, holding for about 5 seconds.
While it seems a bit odd, this procedure actually accelerates
the activation of the Bird Bond and makes for an incredibly strong
and durable bird control product installation.
Using
Self-Tapping Screws
When fastening Bird-Flite pigeon spikes to a structure with small
self-tapping screws, it is recommended to use three screws per
foot, not one per hole. If you are using a drill motor, you should
obtain a long ¼ inch magnetic nut driver (at least 5 inches
long). Make sure you don’t keep the drill motor running
when the screw seats down on the plastic or you could strip out
the hole or possibly break the bird spike base.
Installing
Bird-Flite Bird Spikes on Boats
While bird spike bird deterrents are usually installed by gluing
or screwing the bird spikes to a surface, there are ways to attach
this bird control product to boats. The easiest (and least expensive)
attachment to railings or other thin, round areas is to use alligator
grip cable ties from your local hardware store to attach the bird
repellent. This way you can zip the stainless steel bird spikes
on or off as needed.
Installing Gutter-Point Bird Spikes
Gutter-Point
bird spikes come with the installation clips already attached
to the polycarbonate base to make installation of this bird deterrent
literally a snap!
Start at one end of the gutter run.
Position the stainless steel spike clip along the inside of the
gutter’s outer edge (see diagram). When installed, the polycarbonate
base should rest along the outer edge of the gutter. The stainless
steel spikes should naturally protrude slightly over the outer
edge of the gutter as well as straight upward inside the gutter,
to deter birds from landing on both the outer edge and the inside
of the gutter.
Once you have correctly positioned that section of bird spike,
simply snap the clip onto the gutter’s edge. Make sure each
of the spike clips is secure on the edge of the gutter for a firm
installation of this bird repellant. Then simply position another
one-foot section of Gutter-Point right next to the installed section
and snap it into place working your way down the gutter until
the entire gutter is protected by the bird control product.
Installing Polly-Spike Bird Spikes
A
great benefit of Polly-Spike bird spikes is the extra coverage
gained because of the bird spike configuration.
With Polly-Spike bird spikes you can install multiple rows of
this bird deterrent spaced with the tips up to 2 inches apart
or in a single row or back wall installation you can leave up

(see diagram). On the outer edge the bird spikes (rods) should
overhang the edge by at least ½ inch to provide full protection
against pigeon problems and other problem birds.
For instance, the Polly-Spike 5 inch bird control spikes can
be used to protect a one-sided ledge up to seven inches wide.
These bird repellents can be either glued or screwed to a surface
depending on the application. Using Bird Bond glue is generally
faster and more secure as the entire bird control product is secured
to the ledge. With either method, the application time for installing
these bird spikes is generally around one two to feet per minute
as soon as you get the hang of the procedure.
If you need a shorter portion of the Polly-Spike to finish a
particular area, the bird spike base is scored to snap off with
just a few bends back and forth, making it easy to get just the
right size section of bird spike for your job.
Using Bird Bond Glue
When
using Bird Bond, each two-foot section of bird spikes should receive
eight to ten equally spaced marble-sized dabs of glue (four to
five dabs per foot). You don’t want to run a continuous
bead down the base of the bird spike as you then create a water
barrier.
• Apply eight to ten dabs of glue per bird spike strip (four
to five dabs per foot)
• Place bird deterrent in the correct position and press
to the ledge
• After a few seconds, lift that pigeon spike strip off for
around 10-15 seconds
• Then press the bird spike section again onto the ledge
firmly until some Bird Bond comes out the sides and squirts up
through the screw holes, holding for about 5 seconds.
While it seems a bit odd, this procedure actually accelerates
the activation of the Bird Bond and makes for an incredibly strong
